This is a gorgeous book. Dr Jess has done a fantastic job blending technical know-how into an easy-to-follow guide. My favorite BF book so far!
I ordered this book recently, it arrived yesterday, and I have spent much of today reading different sections of it. I want to start by saying that this is my favorite BF/EA book ever! I own and have read many books on Taoism, particularly translations by Thomas Cleary and books by Daniel Reid. I've read a number of other books on Taoist subjects, including many by Bruce Frantzis and his Energy Arts company. I've gleaned things from every BF book I've ever read, but my largest critique or issue with them has always been that they tend to be very technique-heavy and theory-light. Depending who you are and what your preferences may be, that can be either a good thing or a bad thing. I've always viewed BF as being farthest on the "practical doing" side of the continuum, and Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming as being the furthest on the "theory" side, though obviously both men can do both.

This book is quite sizable, coming in at around 400 pages or so total. It has a number of...
The real thing

When I purchased this book I had only heard of Bruce Frantzis on the internet. I was reticent to make the purchase because of all the "Experts" ready and willing to take someone's money and offer almost nothing in return. It seems that in the internet marketing world, there is no end of people offering dubious wisdom for financial gain. Few of them have much honor beyond their desire to cash in the the wealth of anonymous marketing. Bruce Frantzis, I am pleased to report, is the real thing.
This book, encyclopedic in length and content is a rare find. It offers the Taoist theory upon which all the exercises, both mental and physical are based. Having been a student of Tai Chi Chuan for several years, I was most excited to be reminded of what I used to know and instructed in theories and techniques I had never heard of before.
In a word, after reading some of the 400 plus pages of this tome, I would love to study personally with Mr. Frantzis.

Extremely comprehensive book on taoism and sex
This book is a joy to read and is also packed with in depth content at over 400 pages. The amount of information that the author includes is outstanding. Having himself studied real taoism for decades, the act of bringing this knowledge to the West is a real treasure.
The information in the book is very organised and contains a lot of information that is universally useful to all kinds of practice and taoism as whole. The sex aspect of taoism is not just some thing that is completely separate from everything else but rather because the practices are based on taoism itself just learning about the sex aspect can enhance your overall understanding of taoist practices and theory, which the author goes into in depth.
The book's practices and the overall context of everything ties back to taoism and all its practices as everything one does in whatever solo practices of qigong and meditation that they do can be integrated and used in sexual qigong or sexual meditation.

this book is one of the best i`ve ever read, and i read my share. but then i deeply respect and admire david deida, and have experienced time after time that even reading his works can open ones heart up and give taste of the deeper realm.

this book has scenes that is quite interesting, to say the least - and it is a great test to "stay open, as love" or suffer from the hearts contraction, fear and aversion.

one of my late inner fascinations is the truth that we will have to accept lifes ambiguities. rarely can one find masters and teachers like ramana maharshi, for instance, which are nothing but saintly purity. krishnamurti is an example of a wise man, strongly illuminated and full of wisdom. then, another time, he is clearly full of prejudgement and aversion. so most people would say "oh, he is so wise and beautiful" (which is true), and other would say "he is an angry and judgemental old man" (which is also true).

Adds colour to the Deida oevre

Deida has written so many guides to emotion and spiritual growth, so it was refreshing here to get a much more colourful sequence of lessons. Though his own experiences with an intensely charismatic teacher, the book is a sequence of extraordinary anecdotes that inspire and entertain as well as teach. While I get a lot out of his other books, especially Finding God through Sex, this is a great companion book.

Nothing but a drunken orgy
I read David Dieda's book "Intimate Communion" and found it to be insightful and transformative - I believe in and experience deep love and sharing he conveys - he hits home on so many points about men and women. I was initially intruiged by the story-like essence of Wild Nights, but I am really disgusted by this book and perceive the "teacher", Mykonos, to be little more than a drunk sex addict who manipulates people at their deepest levels - through sex and the emotions, fulfillment and addictive rush of "love" that one can feel in sex. Although this is supposedly a work of fiction, its focus is on polygamous, sexually loose experiences.

I personally feel let down by this book - this is not about God and love, it is about delusion and the use of group-sex to artificially break down internal barriers - barriers that can be broken down in a truly loving and trusting relationship. 8 years ago when I began my journey to being fat positive in earnest, I had the privilege of buying the first edition of Big Big Love when it was still in print and I am not merely spouting cliches when I say that it changed my life overnight. For the first time in my life I was reading a joyful "how to" sex manual that was geared towards people with bodies like mine. It was a pleasant surprise to find that Big Big Love was more than just your typical sex manual, it was also an invaluable guide to living your life with joie de vivre as a fat person. Big Big Love included such priceless chapters on how to deal with well meaning loved ones who constantly critique your weight and it even offered clever comebacks to comments that come from less than well meaning sources. I was hoping this book would contain more advice and tips on sex with a plus size woman. It didn't really have much helpful advice, instead articles geared toward upping a womans self-esteem so that she can do these things. There was a lot of interesting information in it, though, and I'll definitely look back at it for references on things.

I must admit that this book was sometimes very hard for me to read, because it hit way to close to home. I am a 37 year old black male and I have definitely seen a change in the landscape when it comes to relationships in today's culture. I was brought up overseas and in a home and culture where a man was supposed to treat a woman with respect and dignity, get to know her and know her passions and dreams before taking her to bed. You'll Be Hooked
I give this book 5 stars simply for shedding light on the new way in which teenagers and young adults view sex and relationships. The author says that for many young people today the concept of courtship or dating is antiquated. It has been replaced by the hookup.

The essence of hooking-up, which can be anything from kissing to intercourse, is that there are no strings attached. There is no relationship, only instant gratification. It is suppose to be primarily a physical act, devoid of emotions. There is usually alcohol involved. The author is clearly against the hooking-up culture. She is no Puritan when it comes to sex, but for her, physical intimacy should happen within a meaningful relationship.

A very accurate view on today's young women
I can't stress enough how accurate a portrayal this book is of most modern young women. As a 28-year old woman who has just finished medical school but never had a lasting relationship because I always felt my studies should come first (and so I've been told all my life), this book hit very close to home.

I have no issue with the practice of polyamory. My issue is with the messenger. Jenny is a clever woman who easily wins people over with her warm demeanor and self-deprecating wit. However, I cannot take what she says at face value. Her book is supposed to be about open "marriage", but it has been (rather sheepishly) dedicated to her girlfriend. This subtle but cavalier gesture underscores the self-centered attitude that drives the story within.

We learn of Jenny's amazing power to attract youthful lesbian lovers who previously identified as straight ("whee"). We learn how she cheated on her spouse for the simple reason that she really, really likes having sex with other people (who doesn't?). And we learn how her husband is "the rock" in a marriage where he seemingly only exists to help her reach "the sky"... her girlfriend. How nice. I'm sure every spouse, male or female, aspires for such a role.

I am an extremely open minded individual with many friends who are in open relationships. It's what works for them, and I respect that. Jenny Block does not seem so open minded, as she simply berates and puts down monogamous relationships throughout her book. She compares monogamous relationships to "big 80's hair," by saying these relationships are unhealthy, impossible to sustain, and are only good for keeping up appearances. I picked up this book hoping to get an insider's view on why open relationships work, but was instead treated to a 270 page thesis about why my monogamous relationship is antiquated and doomed to fail.

Break Out the Rose-Colored Glasses
This book is a readable memoir and a offers some thoughtful reflections on how the author chose open marriage and what her experiences have been. But it's a fairy tale when it comes to what open marriage really involves. Everything just magically works, partly because she has the easy side of the coin (she has multiple partners, but her husband does not). So jealousy, time conflicts, attention conflicts, insecurities, competing intimacy needs, family and relationship emergencies, vacations (and being left out of vacations), child-rearing dilemmas, the taken-for-granted feeling, uncomfortable relations with ex-partners, using the other partner to escape difficult conversations/confrontations, feelings of violated privacy, broken agreements (or agreements stretched to the breaking point), the unforgivable sin of comparing partners out loud, overly needy partners, crazy NRE (new relationship energy), sexy young things making you feel old and getting older, money spent on the wrong...

...for its intended audience, which is lovers of men over 50. It gives advice and insight on making love to a man over 50 without hurting his feelings, and more or less helping him along without him knowing it. However, if you have a more open and communicative relationship with your lover, I would recommned the book "Sex over 50" which is a great book about loving each other.

Enriching but perhaps a step to far for some?

Lovely book! I did learn a great deal. But the authors focus on "cool" passion and suggest staying away from "hotness" (such as oral sex and clitoral stimulation). I am reading two other tantra books (Urban Tantra and Tantra for Erotic Empowerment) that combine the two approaches and encompass more/different forms of love making techniques. For me, the latter two are a better fit.

I have been working with this book for a little under a month, and am very happy with the progress I've been making.
